It's time to face the facts, hunter numbers are dropping. Recent polls have proven this fact. This is not the time to accept the status quo, rather it is time to link arms and get behind one another. The largest conservation group devoted to the whitetail deer has done just that. The Quality Deer Management Association is stepping up their efforts to turn that statistic around furthering the hunting heritage we all enjoy!
One of the staff members with the QDMA has answered the call and is practicing what he preaches. Matt Ross the Assistant Director of Conservation for QDMA committed to taking a lifelong friend named Andy hunting this fall. Andy is the perfect example of adults getting outdoors. Not all new hunters are youth hunters. Any and everyone interested in the outdoors is a prime candidate for introducing them into the sport of hunting. Many people just need a mentor like Matt Ross to step up and take them hunting.
One of Andy's wishes in taking up hunting was to learn where his food came from. This means Matt Ross mentored Andy through the entire meat processing process. Learning what new hunters are most interested in has evolved into a new program through the QDMA. The QDMA has stepped up and begun a Field to Fork program introducing nonhunters to the sport near metropolitan areas across the country. A large part of the program educates these folks on how to process, prepare, and cook venison. We hope you enjoy the podcast and get out there introducing new hunters to the sport just as Matt Ross and QDMA has done! Be sure to check out the QDMA Field to Fork Program.
