Things got hot recently in southwest Missouri. Not only were the temperatures sky high but so was our excitement level when we implemented a growing season fire. Yes, that's right! Growing season fires have different outcomes than dormant season fires. Growing season fires tend to set back woody vegetations and encourage forb growth. There are smaller burn units on the property that have a larger focus on quail and brood-rearing habitat for wild turkeys. In particular, these five acres that we burned is situated between roosting locations and food plots. Making it the perfect candidate for a growing season fire. In this podcast, you are going to hear how this prescribed fire was implemented and why the dry conditions mimicked nature allowing us to improve the habitat for game species.
